Visual Studio 2010 is an integrated development environment (IDE) for Microsoft Visual C++, Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft Visual C# and Microsoft F#. It is the successor to the Visual Studio.NET 2003 IDE. Visual Studio 2010 comes in various editions, including Visual Studio Professional, Visual Studio Premium, Visual Studio Ultimate, and the Visual Studio Code edition. Visual Studio 2010 is the first version to use the Windows 7 style of UI and it also includes a new object-oriented programming language: C#. It is also the first Microsoft IDE to be able to compile and execute applications created using C and C++ compilers. Visual Studio 2010 can be used to create all kinds of applications, including the Windows Forms applications, business applications, and games. In addition to its ability to create new applications, Visual Studio 2010 can also create applications by editing existing programs, and Visual Studio 2010 is used for developing both third-party and internal programs.
An update to the Visual Studio 2010 design was released as Visual Studio 2012, but it is no longer supported as of Visual Studio 2013. Visual Studio 2012 still uses the Windows 7 style of UI and it is still considered a successor to Visual Studio 2010, although some features are still missing. Microsoft has also stated that Visual Studio 2013 will be the last version to support Windows XP, because Microsoft is actively developing and testing the Windows 8 version of Visual Studio and intends to support the Windows 8 version as long as it is supported by the OS. Microsoft has also stated that they will not add any new supported platforms to Visual Studio once the Windows 8 version of the IDE is complete. Visual Studio 2013 also includes a completely new environment for web development called ASP.NET MVC 4. It also includes a new version of C# called C# 5.0 and Visual Studio 2013 is the first version to include the Visual C++ compiler toolchain, it is the first version to use the Windows 8 style of UI and supports both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. The update also includes a number of other improvements and features such as improved support for ASP.NET Web API, MVC, SignalR, jQuery, and jQuery mobile.
In October 2007, Microsoft released Visual Studio.NET 2007, codename Mavericks (a reference to a type of monkey), which is the first major revision of Visual Studio.NET since.NET Framework 1.1. It was made available for download on the Microsoft Web site and the Visual Studio Download Center.[163] The upgrade to Visual Studio.NET 2007 is compatible with Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio.NET 2003. This version has a new integrated web server.[citation needed]
In June 2006, Microsoft released Visual Studio.NET 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1) which was a minor upgrade to Visual Studio 2005 (version 6.0). Microsoft made SP1 free for all Visual Studio 2005 users, because they had already spent money for the upgrade.[citation needed] 827ec27edc
