Kranti (ಕ್ರಾಂತಿ) is a 1982 Indian Bollywood drama film, directed by Basu Bhattacharya, starring Meena Kumari, Amjad Khan, Bindu, Vinod Khanna and Jeetendra. Produced by B. R. Chopra and Madhu Bhattacharya, it marked the comeback of Bollywood superstar Rajesh Khanna after a seven-year absence from the Hindi film industry. The story revolves around Ravi, a singer-songwriter who gets married to his love interest Indu, whom he finds out later is already married. Ravi is mistaken for a criminal who has been spotted escaping from jail, forcing him to run away. He meets Indu, who tells him that she is the wife of a dangerous criminal and requests that he not reveal this to anyone. Ravi does not agree but she continues to plead with him. A court then issues a warrant for Ravi's arrest. This makes Indu desperate and she is blackmailed by her husband to abandon Ravi.
Usha Khanna (Vinod Khanna's wife) had given him the movie. After watching the film, he wanted to make another film and he approached Basu. However, on the movie he decided not to be in it. He was not a fan of the film but after watching the film and thinking of its story, he changed his mind and decided to be a part of the film.
It was a commercial success. The film's songs were also critically acclaimed, and it won six Filmfare Awards, including Best Actor for Amjad Khan and Best Music Director for Laxmikant-Pyarelal. The music direction was a team effort, with R. D. Burman also playing an important role. The soundtrack album sold over 3 million copies. It was the only movie he produced.
He was again paired with Shashi Kapoor in Kranti (1982), a sequel to Kranti. The film was a hit at the box office.
